Stay Safe and Hydrated This Summer

Hot summer days can be fun, but they also come with risks like dehydration and heat-related illness. It’s important to protect yourself and loved ones by staying cool and hydrated. Here are smart, simple ways to stay safe during hot weather.

Plan your day wisely

  1. Go outside when it’s cooler, like in the early morning or the evening
  2. Stay inside during warmer hours, like late morning and the afternoon
  3. Check the forecast and avoid outdoor plans during heat waves

Stay hydrated

  1. Drink water regularly even if you don’t feel thirsty
  2. Carry an insulated water bottle with you
  3. Limit caffeine and alcohol, which can cause dehydration
  4. Eat foods that contain water, like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges

Heat-related illness: If you notice these symptoms, take action!

  1. Symptoms of heat exhaustion: Dizziness, heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, headache
    • Move to a cooler place, sip water, and rest
  2. Symptoms of heatstroke (a medical emergency): High body temperature, confusion, rapid pulse, fainting
    • Call 911 immediately and use cold compresses or a fan to cool down
